As RPF-Inkotanyi’s candidate and incumbent president Paul Kagame is rallying for campaigns ahead of August presidential polls, people have been excited to see amazing artworks bearing some of his inspirational quotes during an art exhibition held at Umubano Hotel.
Dubbed ‘Ijambo Ritatse Ikamba’ Art Exhibition, the exhibition was organized by Ikamba, a startup creative company aiming at inspiring people, mostly young people, with the aim to showcase President Paul Kagame’s Inspirational Quotes that might have made positive impact on Rwanda’s and African community.
The quotes were digitally illustrated on printed T-shirts, on one hand, and on Laser woodcuts, on the other hand, where people could well and easy see the impacting messages from the quotes.
Brigitte Kamaraba, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Ikamba, said the initiative was thought to recognize the milestone of Kagamewho never cease to comeup with ideas carrying the impact of positive change among not only Rwandan but global community.
“We joined our minds together and came up with a lot of ideas and activities that can inspire people in different creative and innovational ways. This time our focus was on Paul Kagame’s quotes because he is one of the greatest persons in this country and even worldwide. So, we wanted to promote and spread his messages on printed t-shirts and laser woodcuts so people can get inspiration from what he says,” Kamaraba said.
Asked whether the exhibition might have coincided with the fact that Kagame is in elections campaigns for the bid to retaining his top position as a leader of the nation, Kamaraba said, “I might be a coincidence but it has nothing to do with Kagame’s elections rally at all because we have thought about working on it even before.”
“For now, we want to expand our ways of spreading his messages through arts and it is not going to stop by here [at the exhibition] as we are working on other projects that can inspire people, in one way or another, mostly young people from different areas so they can draw the inspiration on building a betterfuture of the country”
How the idea came
Kamaraba said, “Actually, me and my colleague already knew we had the same dream. We wanted to do something that can benefit a big number of the community, especially Rwandans and Africans. Even those heroes that fought for our country to pave way to where we are now, can be our inspiration. So, for now, we do not have any excuse we want to deliver something that can inspire the country’s young people like the heroes did. We want to show the country that we are able and committed to work for it through such an encouraging and exciting initiative like this”.
Dolph Banza, a visual artist and the brain behind the artworks showcased at the exhibition, told The New Times he was happy to see a lot of people coming to see the artworks he made.
“I am very happy to see people come in big number to see our artworks. There is nothing that makes an artist happier than seeing people excitedly watching his artworks. So, I owe them nothing other than a big ‘thank you’ to support us. Kagame is one of the main people to tell Rwandan story. So we thought of collecting together some of the quotes that inspired the community and illustrated them to keep feeding them to a larger community,” he said.
