President Kagame insists Bugesera International Airport will play a very positive impact on the economic welfare of not only Bugesera residents but also to the entire country’s community.
After laying the stone of foundations of Bugesera International Airport, Kagame said the airport will play a big part in socio-economic transformations of the Rwandan community once it is completed.
He said, “I am pleased to join you today to break ground for this important national project. We may not be big but we will always strive to be our best. We are as determined as you are to see this airport completed and operational”.
“Bugesera Airport is an important part of Rwanda’s strategy for socio-economic transformation. We see this facility as an essential component in boosting intra-African travel, investment and business, “he added.
The airport will be having the capacity to handle over 1.7 million passengers in a year as long as the construction activities are finalized by December 2018.
He added that it is in Rwandans’ usual minds that expectations are set to reach or go beyond them with positive deliverance.
“Rwandans to whom we are accountable are used to having high expectations and trust us to deliver. This will be no different. I look forward to celebrating the inauguration of the new airport in the not too distant future,” he said.
The first phase of the airport construction works is expected to cost at least USD 418 million while the second phase will cost USD 414 million to raise the facility’s capacity to serve at least 4,5 million passengers in a period of one year.
