#Heros’Day2017: CHENO crowns living heroes for their Heroic personalities

As the country honors Rwandans who sacrificed their lives so that fellow countrymen can enjoy liberty, lead dignified lives, the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honor (CHENO) has crowned thankful medals to those who pushed the country from recovering form hard times.

It is CHENO’s responsibilities to honor those who sacrificed their all for the sake of the country’s liberation.

The crowning process of living heroes was introduced since 2006 to give them credit for their outstanding actions that have good life to the country and its citizens thanks to their sacrifices.

The medals are given to both nationals and foreigners who also felt merciful to do great things that can shape up the country’s life during hard times especially using their efforts to free the country during the 1994 Tutsi Genocide.

The medals were thought to be handed to those who did heroic actions to inspire the young generation to adopt the culture of heroism during their life time while serving their country.

Only President of the Republic is the right person who hands thankful medals to living heroes, either nationals or Internationals, and are crowned different medals depending on respective classes of medals.

The list includes those who were crowned National liberation Medal (Uruti), Campaign against Genocide Medal (Umurinzi), Rwanda Defence Force Order of Honour, Command Service Ribbon, Order of Bravery and Combat Action Ribbon

There were also RDF soldiers who fell at the battle who were crowned with RDF Order of Honor. They were handed these medals on July 4th 2007. They include:

    • MHC WASWA Adam
    • Colonel NDUGUTE Steven
    • Captain BITAMAZIRE Boniface
    • MHC MUVUNANYAMBO Francisco

    • 10 Colonel BAGIRE W. Theogene
    • Colonel NGOGA Charles
    • S/O MICO Edison
    • Lieutenant Colonel KARANGWA Edward

National Liberation Medals

On July 4th 2006, 10 policemen and 18 civil heroes were crowned National Liberation Medal (Uruti).

On July 4th, 2007, 15 civil living heroes, 238 living soldiers, 15 demobilized soldiers and 44 soldiers who fell at the liberation war were crowned the same kind of medals.
On July 4th 2009, 9 foreign heroes were crowned with National Liberation Medal (Uruti). They include Ugandan President Yoweri K. Museveni, deceased and former Ethiopian president Meles Zenawi, former Tanzania president Julius Nyerere while plus Eritrean Ambassador Haile MENKERIOS and American Roger Winter got the same medal on July 4th, 2010.

On July 4th 2009 President Yoweri K. Museveni, Meles Zenawi and Julius Nyerere were also crowned with Campaign against Genocide Medal (Umurinzi)

On July 4th,2006, 10 policemen and 5 civilians were crowned with (Campaign Against Genocide Medal): Umurinzi

  • Ku wa 4 Nyakanga 2006, 6 soldiers were crowned with ‘‘Order Of Bravery’’
    • 7 deceased soldiers were crowned with “Command Service Ribbon”

In July 2007, 546 soldiers, were crowned with “Command Service Ribbon, while 21157 more soldiers werew crowned with “Combat Action Ribbon”.
