This Sunday at 15:00, President Kagame is expected as a special guest live on Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA)’s Radio and TV channels for interview. People from different parts of the country and abroad, will have a chance to chat with Kagame where they will be sharing their suggestions as well as asking questions in process.
Via his Twitter timeline, RBA Director General Arthur Asiimwe, wrote a statement inviting the general audience to get in touch with the head of State.
It reads, “We have the honor to welcome, tomorrow, His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic, to our studios at 15:00. In a live broadcast, give your questions and suggestions via #RBAHostsKagame, and the lines will be opened as well. ”
He also ensured that other broadcast media can be connected to RBA for the live streaming broadcast interview.
Bwiza.com immediately contacted some politicians and policy experts to collect their views and expectations of this live broadcast.
For Christine Mukabunani, the Chairman of opposition party PS Imberakuri, it is a great step and a good message. “It is normal for Kagame, like a man aware of what democracy means, although his team does not follow his example. It is popular, we know and we hope this is going to be a golden opportunity for the population to express whichever is in their heart “.
The opposition party chairperson has congratulated RBA for such a milestone to host Mr President, something which was not normal that local media can invite and host the head of state. He is usually the one who invites media for a press conference.
However, she regrets that Kagame is preaching in the desert, suggesting that other members of the government should learn from him and do the way he does.
“It is unfortunate that he preaches in the desert, his subordinates do not learn from it. The proof is that the problems persist in the population, while he, once informed, and completely solves it with immediate effect. What do others do? “Mukabunani wondered.
Dr. Frank Habineza, an aspiring presidential candidate like Kagame, revealed that this is an indicator that Rwandan press is evolving.
The Green Party chief is convinced that there is democracy in Rwanda and wishes to see it to continue even during the elections campaign.
For Marie Immaculée Ingabire, the chairperson of Transparency International, Rwanda, it is an impeccable practice, sign of progress on the side of governance on one hand, and for the press, on the other hand.
A member from the same party as Kagame, said, ” at his work, the President went to the field, the population of a single district subjected him to problems, but in the studio, even that of Rusizi in the West, or Kirehe East may present his complaint.
Hats off to the press
Marie Immaculée, who also used to be a journalist, and member of the Bureau of the Rwanda Media Commission (RMC), said that the press is obviously evolving impressively.
“For the press, it’s a goal. It plays its role of intermediary between the governors and the governed, but this time, with the supreme authority. This proves the power of the press works in favor of its people the public, to whom it gives space “.
And for the President, Ingabire observes that he is aware of the preponderant role of the press [as a fourth power] as a bridge between the government and the citizens.
“For a head of state, the general public can only chat with all Rwandans through media. Thus, it recognizes the principle that the press plays a link between the authority and the citizen “.
Speaking of the population, Ingabire explores “a golden opportunity”, where the population expect a short cut to chat with the President.
She calls on citizens not to miss such an opportunity, with which they can submit problems. Thus “this is democracy, power of the people, by the people and the people”.
Among the salient problems, Ingabire evokes the following:
-some universities have recently been suspended, parent faced a huge loss of the money paid on their children who study in the respective universities. Those who have approved these universities to operate in Rwanda, without fulfilling the criteria, should take responsibility, not students.
– Affiliates of the Health Insurance schemes at Rwanda Social Security Board never find medicines at public health center, and are forced to resort to private pharmacies, while they are poor.
– Legal proceedings and execution of trials. Some judges summarize the trials, on the pretext that they have many cases to deal with.
There are still bailiffs, both professional and non-professional, and certain notaries who execute illegally the trials, often outside their jurisdiction, or unfairly in relation to the decisions of the courts.
The hijackers of the public funds should also bring back the sums money embezzled, and should be responsible for the damage resulting from this diversion. Ex: In Girinka program, counterfeiters must themselves deal with the poverty of the beneficiating family, malnutrition and death cases reported from the killing incidents committed in communities , school dropout, etc., caused by the non-granting of the cow for support.
It has been six years since a broadcast of the same scale took place. Kagame took to Contact FM Radio in 2010 and 2011, during a talk show, previously known as Crossfire.
