President Paul Kagame is positive that the community is able to take Rwanda from one level to another, calling for further hard work and use one’s means to put the nation in good position towards development and give up on relying on others’ donations.
He was speaking on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, during the 23rd Liberation Day Celebrations held at the national level in Shyira Sector, Nyabihu Sector where thousands of people in the district and neighboring districts gathered to celebrate 23 years of liberation after the sacrifices made by heroes to liberate the country.
Kagame said, “With good leadership and the right politics, each of us working together can build the nation we deserve. We know what we are capable of because we have seen how far we have come, let us continue to preserve the security that has allowed us to achieve progress. We are capable of transforming our nation. It is within our means to be as prosperous as any developed nation in the world”
For Kagame, liberation has two stages: liberating ourselves from people and the consequences of their actions
“When you rely on others for your survival, they decide whether you live or die. But we liberated not only ourselves from bad leadership, but we have also to fight for freedom from poverty and forget about depending on others for our livelihood because we are capable of doing it and, with good leadership and the right politics, each of us working together can build the nation we deserve”
He also urged the youth to use their opportunities and efforts to follow their country’s heroes’ footsteps and put the country where it is supposed to belong.
“The majority of you here today were not born 23 years ago. You are the leaders of this nation for the many years ahead,” he said.
During the celebrations Kagame and first Lady Jeannette toured the model village built by Rwanda Defense Forces for 108 vulnerable families in Shyira.
“The houses you were given were not handouts. It is a foundation for you to transform your life,” he told the model village beneficiaries.
It was also an opportunity for the Northern Province District to officially inaugurate the newly built Shyira District Hospital that will be having the capacity to serve over 200,000 people in the area.
