The members of RPF Inkotanyi have nominated reigning President Paul Kagame as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the upcoming presidential polls slated for August 4th 2017.
The decision to task Kagame to represent the party was supported on Saturday by a total of 1929 out of 1930 member representatives of the Party during the party’s extraordinary Congress held on Saturday at the party’s new headquarters in Rusororo.
Gasamagera Wellars, the party’s commissioner of Mobilization, on behalf of the RPF Inkotanyi family, announced to the public in general, and to the party’s members, that Paul Kagame will again be RP’s proud candidate ahead of the presidential elections.
The extra ordinary RPF congress which nominated President Kagame was also attended by representatives from different political parties like Tanzanian Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Jubilee, Ugandan National Resistance Movement (NRM), Chinese Communist Party (CCM), African National Congress (ANC) from South Africa, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRF) and parties from Angola, Congo Brazzaville, Eritrea and Djibouti
Kagame has been RPF’s lone candidates after facing no competition from other members of the party in the elections that started at the village level until he was officially unveiled and nominated to represent the party at the national level .
Kagame’s appointment by the party’s members to contest for the next term ahead of the presidential polls comes after he was given green light to stands more chances to join the race to lead the country once again after the constitution’s 101 article allowed him to run another seven-year term, if he gains confidence from the people and elected.
Over 4 million Rwandans submitted their documents to the parliament requesting to change constitution’s article 101 allowing Kagame to run another term having been convinced by great efforts he made since he stopped Genocide which cost over a million of Tutsi’s lives and used his skills and strength to build a reunited and reconciled country as well as leading the country to a fast economic progress.
Kagame will looking to dominate the elections to retain his place at the top of the country but he arguably face tough competition from Green Party’s Frank Habineza and private candidates Gilbert Mwenedata, Assinapol Rwigara’s heir Diane Shima Rwigara and surprise candidate Fred Barafinda Sekikubo Nominate who declared their intention to run for the presidency if their candidacy cards are accepted by the Commission.
