Rwanda is negotiating with an Italian Company to build cable cars in Karisimbi. The whole project will take 38 million Euros, and will be the second in Africa after Cape Town, if not 1st placed higher.
Leitner Group, an Italian Company of 129 years of experience, is ready to execute the project. These luxurious technology of transport and communication will increase tourism income. Located in Karisimbi Volcano, the 4th highest mountain of Africa, the project will include the station, visitor’s center, and a communication tower.
On behalf of the company, Dominic Bosio tells Umuseke.rw, that they are ready technically. “The contract says 22 months, but I hope we will not exceed 18”, has says as Export Sales officer.
They are waiting for the government of Rwanda to sign the contract.
RDB officials argue that ropeways will offer unique features that are not available elsewhere in East Africa. It will also increase an overall revenue from tourism, and will expand the stay of tourists in Rwanda.
However, RDB is not sure of the starting time of the project, as negotiations still go on. “I’ve nothing special to stay, things are under process. Keep in mind that ropeway will be, we found the company to implement it…, says Belise Kariza, Chief of Tourism department in RDB.
This project of ropeways is one among other projects of Rwanda government to promote tourism industry, the one to procure more foreign money. Statistics show that this field brought more than 300 million USD in 2015.
