Chief Justice Sam Rugege has called the National Election Commission’s electoral team to organize the elections and avoid losing hope from the people but keep faith in them by doing their job not driven by emotions but transparency from the elections organizing team ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
While receiving the oaths from newly appointed commissioners at the National Electoral Commission (NEC), namely Judith Mbabazi and Joyce K. Bamwine, on Wednesday, Rugege told them that electoral Commission is an exceptional organ that requires transparency, attention and courage towards a successful election process.
The duo, Mbabazi and Bamwine, were recently appointed new Commissioners at the National by the Cabinet decisions of April 5th 2017.
He said, “The success or failure of elections will depend on your teamwork. The Constitution gives right to every Rwandan to have a word on who shoudl lead their country depending on what they expect to their prefered leader. So, you will need to guide them from the beginning to the end until they vote who they wanted and your experience will hgopefully help you fulfil your duties, “ Rugege told the fresh elections commissioners.
Judith Mbabazi is currently the Secretary General of Rwanda Law Reform Commission (RLRC) while Joyce Bamwine is the General Councilor at Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD).
The newly-appointed commissioners promised team work to make sure Rwandans’ voting rights are recognized and not violated and make sure the upcoming presidential elections are done with transparency, free and fair and without violating any law during the elections campaigns.
However, their appointment does not mean they are going to leave their current services in their respective institutions where they are working as they will be providing legal support to the commission between June and September to help the commission make the commission electoral task successful ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
NEC Chairperson, Prof Kalisa Mbanda, , said pair were appointed at the right time when the commission wanted new forces to the current upcoming elections organizing and expects a team spirit from them and their additional forces are expected to make good impact towards the success of the upcoming presidential elections.
“The come really when we wanted them and I hope their contribution will impact to a successful elections campaign ahead of the upcoming presidential elections which are in preparation process. So the commission is family and we are looking forward to their contribution,” he said.
Their main responsibility will be to help the commission to design a document containing electoral information, civic education to explain Rwandan community the significance of the elections as well as designing the rules the commission will be using to help Rwandans understand everything about the upcoming presidential elections.
