Justice Minister and Attorney General Johnston Busingye plays down the Human Rights Watch’s report against which it states that the country’s security departments have allegedly been getting involved in murder on convicts before they face justice and be held accountable for the their allegations.
Busingye brands the ‘fake’ and ‘nonsensical’ report as the organization (HRW)’s opportunity to gain popularity.
The report states that different security department in Rwanda like military forces and police have taken away different convicts of various minor crimes and killed them, under supervision of local authorities.
Having taken a look at the report, Busingye took to Twitter and expressed his sense of disappointment against the report.
“My response to HRW report: It is clearly fake. HRW is so desperate for attention. They have been duped, yet again, wilfully. It’s high time these organizations grew up and became professional or quit human rights business. Rwanda will continue to tell her own story, as befits Rwandans,” wrote Busingye on his Twitter timeline.
This is not the first HRW report that Rwanda has slammed, as Busingye criticized the previous report that was claiming that fear is weighing up among Rwandans as the country is closing in on August 2017 elections.
According to the report released on Thursday, different security departments have so far killed 37 victims before they faced justice of the minor crimes that they were suspected. Some crimes include theft of properties like crops, livestock among others. Besides the murdered ones, there are others who disappeared while those security departments might be behind their whereabouts.
