Suspected drug trafficker arrested in Kirehe


Suspected drug trafficker Emmanuel Bakanireba has been arrested in Kirehe District for trafficking narcotic drugs into the country. He was apprehended on August 13 in Kabuga Cell of Musaza Sector. He was at the time of his arrested found in possession of 25 kilogrames of cannabis.

Supt. James Rutaremara, the District Police Commander of Kirehe, narrated that they were contacted by a resident in Kabuga, who informed police that he suspected one of the residents to be involved in illicit business.

“At about 5am on Saturday, police officers were dispatched to go to his house and during the search, they recovered 25 kilogrammes of cannabis,” Supt. Rutaremara said.

The suspect is currently detained at Kirehe Police Station pending further investigations.

He thanked the resident who provided the lead information adding that information sharing will lead to arrest of drug dealers and ultimately break the supply chain.

Although Kirehe is labeled one of the major transit routes for drug traffickers especially cannabis, the DPC noted that through awareness, targeted operations, strengthening community policing, Irondo and routine checks and operations, main routes have been identified and many dealers arrested.

    Residents of kirehe did a good job by sharing that information. those dealers are our neighbors or even worse our family members, by reporting them we help our police to serve us better.
