The Rwanda Muslim Community (RMC) is against anyone who suggests that Islam, as a religion, is behind terrorism that has been trending all over the world over the year, and rules out claims that all terror attacks are driven by Muslims for the sake of the religion but by their own interests.
Sheikh Moussa Sindayigaya, the Spokesperson of RMC, it is unfair to say people or a group of people get involved in terrorism and the global community appear suggesting it is done in the name of Islam terrorist hold terror attacks for their own interests.
At the moment, 40 Muslims, mostly youth, have been arrested and are facing justice over terror suspect. However Sheikh Sindayigaya that such forms of terrorism are done for personal or group reasons, making it clear Islam does not send Muslims to get involved in terror attacks because Terrorism is not among Islam’s pillars.
“Rwanda is not a particular soil where security troubles can’t reach. Any situation, good or bad has to happen at all cost and terrorism is taking advantage through a very fast technology while youth are getting involved in such. But it is totally wrong and unfair to decide that all these are done in the name of Islam,” he said.
He denied that terror groups really work for Islam because the religion does not support the killings of innocent people but preaches unity and peace among the community but they keep crediting the terrorism to Islam because religions, not only Islam, are being used for the interests of a person or a group of people.
However, more measures against terrorism have been taken to protect the religion’s name, build a positive reputation and contribute to the country’s security protection.
So far, the Muslim Community has created anti-terror clubs in youths at District levels, working with security departments, making sure Muslim students who get scholarships abroad have been admitted by schools which have positive background and not linked to terrorism while the community a Muslim who comes from abroad for preaching mission in Rwanda that he has to communicate the Muslim community before the preaching process.
The same applies to Islamic NGOs which provide support to the Muslim Community that they have to communicate RMC and let it have full control of the support that is going to be provided in order to make sure the support is shared by the community instead of reaching some.
Sindayigaya said, “ If a sponsor wishes to support the Muslim community, he needs to let us know what exactly he is going to offer, where the support comes from, how it will be distributed , the background of the sponsor and who are the beneficiaries so we can make sure that the support all destined beneficiaries”
