RPF’s candidate Paul Kagame has revealed that not only the ruling party’s members wish to see him lead Rwanda, but also non-members of RPF, kept expressing the incumbent president should go on. Kagame reveals, “I felt more surprised when Twagiramungu said that I am the one who deserve to be president,” but the same man changed his mind after a short, saying he was no longer interested in Kagame.
Nyamasheke might have completely been convinced by Kagame’s heroic character, when he talked of Beligum-based politician Faustin Twagiramungu, who is also said to have had faith in Kagame until he appealed that he should immediately become the president shortly after having a big hand in stopping Genocide against the Tutsi.
He gave the point, after Senator Bernard Makuza who said Kagame’s achievements speak themselves after he had a big hand in stopping Genocide against the Tutsi while he also won the battle during the country’s liberation struggle.
Makuza could imagine that, with little information on military structure, “when a military chief commander wins the war immediately takes over as president shortly after the battle”.
However, Makuza said, “You [Kagame] were different. You let a different man take over the presidency, and you assisted him. This is unique. You are amazing”
Makuza revealed that he got enough time to know who Kagame really is, given how interesting he has been on the RPF candidate’s character, but admits those who knew him at the young age would explain more about his background than he does.
Makuza did not cease to tell Kagame, “You are amazing!” Once again.
Makuza talked of a big number of politicians would like to see Kagame immediately take over as president after RPF-Inkotanyi took the rule.
Although Makuza could not list the names of those politicians, Kagame himself revealed some of them to residents while campaigning in Nyamasheke District last week.
He said, “ when the battle was over, we set up a new government of unity and more, he [Makuza] did not want to say their names…, they were so many, including the likes of Twagiramungu… I think he was the one who Makuza was saying he stays abroad, but we always tell him to return home, he was there”
“What amazed me at the time is when a very big group of people from PL, PSD, and former MDR which Twagiramungu was heading, came to us. We explained to them how thing are going to be done.
However, Kagame felt more surprised when Twagiramungu said Kagame was the one who deserve to be president, but again the same man changed his mind after a short, saying he was no longer interested in him.
“I guess he was thinking to make me his tool, a bridge on which he would cross,” he said, adding that what he only wanted thing was working hand-in-hand.
The government in question was established on July 19th 1994, lead by Pasteur Bizimungu(civilian and former ELECTROGAZ leader who joined RPF on battle field). He was assisted by Gen Paul Kagame(now RPF chairman, president and candidate, who was the army chief commander on battle), he was a vice president of the country and minister of defense.
Faustin Twagiramungu, the man in question, was the 1st prime minister -reference to Arusha peace agreement and declaration-(resigned later in 1995-1996, to become candidate in 2003). He was assisted by Col Alexis Kanyarengwe (former officer in Habyarimana’s army, exiled to Tanzania, who joined RPF to become chairman during the war 1990-1994) as deputy prime minister, and minister of public servants and labor.
