The vice mayor of Gasabo District in charge of social affairs, Languida Nyirabahire has said that the achievements registered by women in various fields of development are fruits of good governance and the will of the leadership to empower women.
The vice mayor was speaking on Friday in Bumbogo Sector where she represented the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion at a function to celebrate the achievements made by women in Bumbogo. She told women to be catalysts in fighting gender based violence (GBV).
“A lot has been achieved in terms of security and development and it rests in our roles as well as empowered women to preserve them and fight the challenges that still exist including domestic and gender based violence,” Nyirabahire said.
Chief Supt of police. Rose Muhisoni, the deputy commissioner for community policing thanked the residents in general for their partnership in community policing to fight and prevent crimes.
“Women are not fond of engaging in unlawful acts and in fact it’s not a Rwandan culture. Therefore, be the voice of change towards sustainable security and development,” Chief Supt. Muhisoni said.
She urged the women to know and fight for their rights and that of children and raise the campaign against human trafficking.“Challenge yourselves to fight any form of violence in your communities,” she said.
Antoinette Uwimana, who represented Women for Women International pledged continued support for women empowerment and development but urged them to stay focused in the country’s line of development and transformation process.
