25 Rwandans to serve a year prison sentence in Uganda


Twenty five Rwandans were on Thursday sentenced to one year Imprisonment each by the Kisoro Grade One Magistrates court over Illegal Entry,Chimpreports has learnt.

The court presided over by Magistrate Raphael Vueni heard from prosecution led by the Kisoro resident state attorney Mike Mwanje, that on 11th October 2018, the suspects were arrested at a road block near Nyakabande Primary school in Nyakabande Sub County.

Mwanje told court that the arrested were found without legal travel credentials, which is contrary to section 53 of the Penal Code act.

They all pleaded guilty before the magistrate and asked forgiveness.

Illegal entry into Uganda attracts punishments of two years imprisonment or payment of 2 million Uganda shillings or both.

The magistrate however, handed them a sentence of one year imprisonment or paying of one million shillings because they didn’t waste court’s time.
