Angolan delegation ends visit to Rwanda

An Angolan delegation headed by H.E ÂNGELO DE BARROS VEIGA TAVARES, Minister of Interior paid an official visit to the Republic of Rwanda from 15 – 18 May, 2018. They were welcomed by Rwanda Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Hon. Busingye Johnston, on May 16th.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Angola, Alfred Kalisa (ormer BCDI boss), as well as senior officials from both institutions, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Rwanda and the NISS participated in the working sessions.

The main purpose of the visit was to create preliminary conditions in order to establish bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Rwanda and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Angola, the Ministry and National Intelligence and Security Services on Security and Public Order Matters.

This visit constitutes an important milestone in the framework of strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation existing between the People and Governments of both Countries, which needs to be solidified more and more.

From 16th to 17th May, the guest met with the Inspector General of the Rwanda National Police, the Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau, the General Commissioner of the Rwanda Correctional Service and the Secretary General of the National Intelligence and Security Service, where he was informed about the structure, organization and functioning of the organs of these institutions.

The Minister had a guided visited at the Headquarters of the Rwanda National Police, at the Forensic Laboratory, at the Control and Coordination Center (CCTV System), the Isange One Stop Centre, the Fire Brigade, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau, the Directorate General of Immigration & Emigration, the Rwanda Correctional Service, as well as the crop and livestock production units under the Rwanda Correctional Service.

Furthermore, he visited the Memorial of the Genocide against Tutsis where he received detailed information on the causes that led to this heinous crime as well as the negative consequences faced by the survivors. The Minister then laid a wreath on the mass grave where the victims of the genocide are buried.

At the end of the visit, the Honourable Minister of Justice of the Republic of Rwanda and H.E Minister of Interior of the Republic of Angola signed the Minutes, which reflect the purpose and common interests identified within the cooperation between both institutions.
Finally, H.E ÂNGELO DE BARROS VEIGA TAVARES invited the Minister Busingye to officially visit the Republic of Angola, on the date that best suits his agenda.
