RNP and Stakeholders enforces road safety through zebra crossing increase
Rwanda National Police (RNP) together with several of its stakeholders, on July 30, joined residents of Gahanga sector, Kicukiro district in the monthly community work, umuganda that was marked with painting zebra crossings and road safety sensitization.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr. Célestin Ntivuguruzwa and other Officials includes CSP Murenzi Sebakondo who represented RNP along with several police officers created new zebra crossing and painted existing ones, also dwelt on equipping road users with tips on how to use road safely especially children.
The Permanent Secretary Dr Ntivuguruzwa acknowledged Rwanda National Police remarkable role in ensuring road safety.
“We also believe that more can be achieved especially in preventing road accidents if everyone took it upon themselves to report any traffic offender.” He added confirming a plan of putting zebra crossing near every school in Kigali and possibly beyond.
Speaking to the community about safe use of roads, the spokesperson of traffic and Road Safety department, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda said that putting up zebra crossings help in reducing the number of road accidents and facilitate road users.
He urged residents of Gahanga sector to preserve infrastructure put in place and also asked them to educate children on how to cross roads.
“RNP highly appreciates the partnership with several stakeholders since it enhances public safety,” said CIP Kabanda
He reminded vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles comply to traffic rules and regulations and observe standards set for public safety.
