Rwanda: Direct-Aid invest 600 million in girl’s education

Tuesday October 10th, MINEDUC inaugurates New Explorers Gils Academy (NEGA) in Gashora of Bugesera district. The school is sponsored by a Muslim NGO, Direct-Aid from Kuwait.

Direct-Aid is a charity non-governmental organization founded in Kuwait in 1981, and operates in 30 countries including Rwanda. It works in development of education, care of orphans, development of women and care of widow.

The extension of NEGA includes construction of classrooms, sciences laboratories, administrative office, a computer lab, play grounds, 20 rooms in teacher’s residence, a dining room, a main purpose hall, a library, etc; all worth 600 million Rwandan francs.

While launching the school, the government was represented by Rose Baguma, General Director from MINEDUC, the mayor of Bugesera District, Emmanuel Nzanzumuhire, Direct-Aid envoy from Kuwait, Fahad Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al-Hasawi and the country director Abdulmelik Hassan.

Students and parents, Muslims from Bugesera and all over the country, with many distinguished guests, attended the ceremony. All praised Lord “Allah akbar, allah akbar, allah akbar”.

Fighting poverty, ignorance and diseases

Mme Rose Baguma from MINEDUC thanks the Direct-Aid to contribute in girl’s education, especially in sciences, providing sport facilities in a boarding school.

However, she reminds each side responsibility, “We need to assure discipline among our daughters, nowadays we face teenage pregnancies, I hope NEGA is safe. Parents have to make a follow up of children, together with teachers who have to feel their educate their own children”.

In his speech, Abdulrahman Al-Hasawi from Kuwait mentions three enemies of human beings, that all have to fight. Those are: Poverty, ignorance and diseases.

With this regard, Direct-Aid is there to build schools, pay school fees and assist orphans.

As far as Rwanda is concerned, Direct- Aid activities are located in four districts:

In Gatsibo of west, AL-SAFWA school at Kiramuruzi. The school provides almost free education to nursery, primary and secondary students.

In Gasabo, Kigali, SINAI HILL ACADEMY also has pre-primary, primary and secondary education.

In Bugesera, this NEGA at Gashora provide science education to only girls from all religions, and stay in boarding.

In Nyarugenge district, there is a Head quarter and many beneficiaries around.

Direct-Aid today, offer full support to 400 orphans in education, living and other facilities (school fees, medical insurance, transport fees and school materials).

In social and development care, the project contributes to rising economy and fight against poverty. Each year, Direct-Aid give 40 milk cows to poor families, especially genocide survivors.

More than 80 families got support through micro-finance (200 and 500 Euro per project) to raise their standards of living.

Back to NEGA, the school of the day, it is a secondary private girls’ school, and it is a boarding school. It has Ordinary level and advanced level with three combinations: MCE(Math-Computer-Economics), PCM(Physics-Chemistry-Math), and HEG(History, Economy-Geography).
