Police in Gicumbi District on Saturday morning shot dead three men who were suspects of drug smuggling.
The dead were a part of eight people arrested in operation conducted by police in the region. The trial is well known for smuggling drug from Uganda and distributes them in Rwanda.
They were shot while escaping prison according to the Mayor of the district, Ndayambaje Félix.
“They were given time for a short call with others, three tried to run away after defying police order to stop, then they got shot dead.”
Gicumbi, a district neighbouring Uganda has been a hub for smugglers locally known as ‘Abarembetsi’ despite Police effort to halt illegal and prohibited business on Rwandan soil.
